Answered question

Will the Alexa skill be updated for simple voice control?

Hello. The current version as June 2018 of the Alexa skill is too difficult to use for various members of my family. Other devices are simple such as “Open blinds in lounge”, etc. Will you be updating the Alexa skill?

Hi Nick,

Just to update you from our previous comment, although the TaHoma skill has not been updated, the Alexa app itself has been update to include "Routines".

These allow you to dictate the trigger phrase to Alexa, such as "Alexa, close lounge blinds" and then you would assign the required TaHoma scenario, that closes the blinds in the lounge, to the routine.

Thanks,

Hi Nick,

At present, to control a Somfy TaHoma scenario through Alexa, you must use the trigger words "Alexa turn on..." and the scenario name. I understand this is not as easy as simply asking a blind to open or close however its is how the skill has been programmed at this time. We don't have any further information about updates to the skill to say whether this will change or not.

An alternative way to program the Alexa command would be to use IFTTT where you can specify what you want your command to be, such as "lounge blinds open". Effectively, the IFTTT applet allow you to would complete your open lounge blinds scenario in TaHoma by saying "Alexa trigger lounge blinds open".

Thanks,

Somfy Team ☺
