I connected my Protexiom/Protexial transmitter to my telephone line but since then, my telephone has no dialling tone.

The strips of the different nested sockets might not be in contact.
To overcome this problem, spread the strips of the different nested sockets.
Having connected my telephone transmitter to my ADSL box, my telephone line is always engaged and/or my transmitter makes a BEEP (approx. every 5 seconds). Check the connection of the RJ11 cable to the transmitter.
